Today was Honor's Day for 7th-9th graders at my daughters' high school, and--as usual--my older daughter kicked butt! She received a plaque, certificate, or recognition for everything academic that she could possibly have received something for. She's a genius! Takes after her mother!
The only thing that she could possibly have gotten recognition for that she DIDN'T was for the President's Physical Fitness Award. Maybe next year.
Of all of the awards she received, the one I was proudest of was her recognition for being a Duke TIP finalist. Every year Duke sponsors a program where talented 7th graders take the ACT (Yes, the same ACT that high school juniors and seniors take), and the top scorers are recognized at a state ceremony. My daughter is one of those to be recognized at the state level (She scored a 25 composite on her ACT!).
Many of the awards today--like Honor Roll--had dozens and dozens of kids who received recognition. In fact, for Honor Roll, I think it might have been easier to just call the names of the kids who DIDN'T receive Honor Roll. But there were only two students in the entire 7th grade who were Duke TIP Finalists, my daughter and another girl (She and this girl have been finishing one-two in academic feats since kindergarten), and THAT'S why I was so proud of her. It was a TRULY exemplary accomplishment.
Anyway, as most of you reading this know, my older daughter is not really keen on having her picture taken, so instead of putting her photo on this blog post, I instead put a photo of her certificates and plaques up instead.
