Another Humbling Moment

The last year that I was in the classroom I was teaching one day when a student, a 10th grader, said to me, "Mr. Sweasy, how old are you?"

"It's rude to ask anyone that," I said, "but I'll tell you anyway. I'm 35."

There was an audible gasp in the classroom. One of the other students said, "Mr. Sweasy, there is NO WAY you are 35!"

I smiled a smug smile. I honestly wasn't surprised at the reaction. I worked out every day, and I ate a low fat diet that included almost no meat. I was just about to say "Thank you" when the student continued.

"You are WAAAAAAY older than that!"
