I'm hoping that--by creating this blog post--I will forever rid myself of this spelling deficiency...I can never spell the word "judgment" correctly on a first try. I always want to spell it "judgement." It makes more sense to me. What's the problem with "judgement" anyway? Are linguists afraid we'll pronounce it JUDGE-a-MENT? That's crazy!
Anyway, I'm really just trying to get this in my brain, so indulge me here and let me do some drill and practice really quickly:
judgment judgment judgment judgment judgment judgment
Wow, that was harder than I thought it would be. I kept typing the "e" even though I was telling myself not to. I had to backspace and correct on the first two "judgment"'s, and then I had to type VERY SLOOOWWLY on the remaining ones.
And I'm sorry, but they all still look wrong to me!
Maybe I'm British. I just looked it up online, and "judgement" is the correct British spelling while "judgment" is the correct American spelling.
As hard as it's going to be for me to get this weirdo American spelling in my head, it might just be easier for me to become an expatriate and move to London.
