I was actually writing another post just now, which I will finish on another day, when I discovered that Google Map's "Street View" feature has found its way to Northern Kentucky!
I heard about Street View several months ago. Street View allows you to type in an address in Google Maps, and then click the "Street View" button to see a three dimensional representation of the address. It sounded exciting, but when I heard about it Street View was limited pretty much to major cities like San Francisco (which, I think, is the city that I played around with when I first heard about it). Pretty cool, I told myself at the time, but it'll be forever before Google gets to my street.
Not so. You can see my house by clicking this link.
Pretty cool, huh? I have no idea where we were that day that our cars aren't there. I'm assuming, based on the landscaping, that this was taken sometime between mid-July and November of last year. Maybe Lisa and I were both at work. The pathetic truth, though, is that if we HAD been home and I'd seen this guy standing on the back of a truck (I'm guessing based on the height of the camera that is how it's done) and taking a bunch of pictures, I wouldn't have been surprised or alarmed. I would have assumed it was some ventriloquial kook interested in the museum. That's probably what the neighbors thought, too.
Anyway, Google HASN'T gotten to Frankfort yet, so the Frankfort Sweasys won't be able to play with this toy at their house. But don't worry; they'll get to you eventually...and sooner than you think!

It's me, commenting on my own blog. As I looked at the Street View in more detail, it's obvious that the photos AREN'T taken by someone on the back of a truck. Rather, there's a special vehicle being used that has multiple cameras on it and the cameras all take a photo simultaneously. It's the only way the system would work. And so I could have been home (though I wasn't) when the vehicle drove by and I'd have never noticed it because it would have just looked like a vehicle driving by.
