In the fall, when the temperature outside drops into the forties at night and the fifties in the day, everyone remarks about how cold it's getting. Some people complain about the winter that is starting to arrive. Others who enjoy the winter (people like me) get excited at the prospect of finally needing a blanket at night to sleep.
On the February side of winter, though, when the thermometers outside get to exactly the same temperatures, it feels like summer. Yesterday I took Natalie to Odyssey of the Mind practice a couple of miles from our house, and I bet we passed 60 people walking along the sidewalks of Beechwood Road and Dixie Highway. Some people were in shorts and t-shirts, enjoying highs in the low fifties, the same temperatures that would have sent them digging through their closets for a windbreaker four months ago.
Lisa went walking through those same streets, and if the yard wasn't so saturated with melted snow I would have gotten out and done some yard work just to be outside.
Even though we know in our minds that spring will eventually arrive, when it's seven degrees below zero--the way it was three weeks ago--our hearts don't believe it. Days like yesterday make us believers again.

P.S. I also got the Camry out of the driveway yesterday morning! By the end of the day today I would think all of the snow at the bottom of the driveway will be gone.
