I had a bit of a scare earlier this week when the bill DID get a vote in its committee and was sent to the floor. Worse, the committee added an amendment to INCLUDE children who had already been placed in a foster home. This would mean that those children would be removed from a foster home for no other reason than that the two adults fostering them might not be married.
Fortunately, I found out late yesterday that the bill is now officially dead. The Senate leadership did not put a vote on the bill on the final calendar, meaning that it will not be voted on. It's a victory for common sense.
Of course, there's always next year.

Oh thanks for the post! I got an email from several of my friends about the bill (mainly how it went to the floor after being voted on in a secret session - making sure the public was unaware of the vote). Collectively, we left about a dozen messages for Tom Buford to say that in addition to a fundamental disagreement with the bill, we were seriously disappointed in public servants who would eliminate the public in the decision-making process. Unfortunately, we were on our way to Hilton Head while this was all going on and I lost track of the bill. But I will literally sleep better tonight.
I was relieved as well. Kentucky has enough of a reputation as a backwater state. We don't need to do anything else to add to that.
