Here's a site I discovered that I think is pretty cool: http://www.wordle.net/.
It's a site that anybody--and I emphasize ANYBODY--can use. You just type in some text and hit go and the site creates a picture out of the words. Or if you're lazy, you can actually just enter the address of a web site that already has a bunch of words on it and Wordle will create a text picture from THAT site. The picture above (which you can click on to see larger) describes what--off the top of my head--were the kinds of things you could find on Sweasy.net. The image below takes my extended family and sort of puts us all together.
As I said, the program is super easy. Here are some quick tips, though, so that you don't have to find this stuff out yourself:
1) You can keep words together (like I did above with "Sweasy stuff" and "Me trying to be funny") by putting a ~ in between the words. So I typed "Me~trying~to~be~funny" to get that to work.
2) To make a word larger (as in Sweasy.net above) type it multiple times.
Go play with it. It's fun. Once you've created something you like, it's released to you under a Creative Commons attribution license. That means you're free to do whatever you want with it as long as you give Wordle credit (like I did above). So go be creative!
